Mauser 250-3000
I am helping an elderly neighbor lady sell a Mauser rifle, but we don't know what it might be worth.
The receiver has: "6,5KP WAFFENFABRIK OBERNDORF A/N1"; serial # "87959"; and a small circle with a star/pentagon? inside, followed by a "U", another circle/star, and a "B".
The barrel has: "250/3000".
The bolt release and handle are silver/stainless/nickel? and the handle knob is checkered on both sides.
The stock has a cheek rest and goes all the way to the muzzle end, where there is about two inches of black wood. There are two swivels for a strap.
There is a set trigger with a small screw between the two triggers that seems to adjust the sensitivity.
The floor plate has a large switch/release.
It has a Buehler scope mount with a Weaver 4K scope.
The wood and metal seem to be in very good condition. It has been well maintained and is in working condition.

Hello Rob Pics. are almost a must. I think this is a MAUSER I think it has a barrel put on it as the cal. is 250/3000 or 250 SAVAGE and I don't think it was factory chambered in this cart.The full lenght stock is called a "spelling" MANNLICKER style It sounds like it could be a nice piece BUT pictures to me would help 0 -
You need to consult a specialty reference on Mauser sporting rifles or an advanced (and honest) Mauser collector. The .250-3000 was a rare factory chambering, I believe--it was one of the alternatives to the 8x51 chambering for the also rare "K" length action Mauser sporter. I think there may have also been a 6.5x54 Mauser (not MS) round for that extra-short action. If it's one of those "K" sporters, even the action alone would be worth some $$.
It's probably "just" a custom or semi-custom sporter made up on a commercial Mauser action by a German or American gunsmith. But even one of those, nicely done, is a pretty valuable piece. Worth some research to find out exactly what it is. There are excellent fairly common books on Mauser Sporters--I'm at work and don't want to trust my memory as to authors and titles, but one of the best experts has an article in this month's Rifle magazine and you could get his name there and use the footnotes to that article to get search keywords to find those reference books. As to value, get several opinions before you sell....0 -
A partner of mine picked up a 250-3000 (250savage) that was all what you have written and more, except for the full length stock. He paid about $900 for it. The 250savage is just about a dead caliber and while everything you have says that this probably a very nice custom Mauser you will have to hook up with a Mauser collector, with money, to get a sale. The average joe just isn't going to pony up, but if you find the right customer you should get a decent price for it. What part of the country is she located in? 0 -

This rifle sounds like one nononsense had as his signature picture for a while until he changed to the double rifle.
