Winchester 670 ?

Recently purchased a 670 in 30-06,didn't notice a small crack in the stock below the bolt handle.(For what i paid for it,wouldn't have made any difference).
I am looking to replace the stock and am wondering if a Model 70 post 64 stock is the same,or will work with slight mods.
What besides the cheaper wood and finish are the differences between the Model 70,the 670 and the 770's ?
The trigger on this rifle is awful,any recommendations on a aftermarket trigger,or are these salvagable.

    Winchester told me that modifications to the stock would be necessary on a mod70 stock,..so you may as well have a laminated blank inletted for the 670 by a gunsmith. The 670 is basicaly a 70 action without the wing safety and better trigger, floorplate, etc. The rifle I had in 243 was a great shooter with 75gr HP.

    why chase the game when the bullet can get em from here?....

    I guess i should give Winchester a call just to find out what mods may be needed.
    Any fedback on Richards Micro Fit stocks?

    No experience with richard's,..but I like my boyd JRS classic very much.

    why chase the game when the bullet can get em from here?....

    Do look at Boyd's www.boydboys.com they make very good stocks, including those for many of the manufacturers. I have been very happy with the Timney triggers I have used on my Rugers. It is worth looking to see if they make one for a 670 (which is likely). It might well be worth having a smith put it in. After doing one, I found a smith that would do the others for $20 each.

    I have a Boyds on one of my Mauser 98 rifles and as much as i do like it,i do not want to have to deal with Boyds again.
    Some time back the customer service was good,lately it has started to suffer and more pepole are starting to get annoyed,myself included.
    In my specific case,the shipping time was off by about 6 weeks,and the stock was no where near the drop in they claimed.Actually the barrel channel hardly exsisted,and the inletting for the action was so large i had to glue in strips to take up the space.The stock arrived in a very poorly packaged container,basically it looked like it was thrown in a box and taped shut.
    The finish was somewhere between 60 grit and rough hewn lumber.
    Just no longer worth the agrivation,lifes too short and there are too many other companies who will take your money for a service provided,and stand behind the product after the sale.

    That's wild Z,..Mine showed up packaged very well,..with a SUPER semi-gloss finish and not a single knick in it with a perfectly fitted recoil pad. The M77MKII action was a TIGHT fit and the barrel is very closely floated. I would have sent that stock back with a demand on a refund or a 1 week turnaround on a new one. Maybe the varying dimensions on mauser actions was the reason for that generous clearance? I would hate to think that my next one would be like yours was.

    Take a look at elk ridge stocks,..but I think they may be richard's micro-fit or associated in some way[?] Bill Shehane will make you a superb laminate stock but for a model 70 so the mods will still exist. www.scopeusout.com

    This is good to know,it will save a few dollars on the project.
    Never worked with Winchesters before so this a learning experience
    for me.
    As to the stock question i originally posted,decided on a Richards Micro Fit Classic 102.
    I will order one of the seconds to make sure i can do it right,if it works out i have a few more rifles i will end up doing.
