.22 Mag ammo

I usually shoot the CCI Maxi-mag 40gr HP,but I'm thinking of trying the Federal Premium with the 30gr Sierra JHP. Does anyone have an opinion on the Federal round? I assume with the lighter bullet that velocity will be higher,but what about accuracy? I like the idea of using a Sierra made bullet,I don't know who makes the CCI bullet. I'm shooting a Single-six with a 6.5 inch bbl and a 2x20 scope. I've got it sighted in @50yds with the CCIs and they are pretty accurate (6 shots in 1in off a rest,which is good considering the shooter). Can the Federal load do better?

    i was wondering what kind of recommendations could be made for groundhog hunting ( live in northeast) ammo. it is demanding as range and hard hitting with good accuracy. yes i want it all. i am considering the cci hp gold dot ammo, but how bad does the big hollow point affect the accuracy. the gun i am using is a 2 year old ruger model 77 (shoots very nice). also should i go with the 33 grain or stick with the 40 grain ammo. right now the gun is sighted in on the standard cci maxi-mag. is the ballistic tip ammo worth the money.

    Every gun will handle brands of ammo diffrently so what works for one might not in another so you'll just have to try some. Sounds like a good excuss to go to the range to me.[:D][}:)]

    My Marlin Heavy barrel 22 mag did not like the Federal 32 loads. I have been exclusively using the Winchester Supreme (black box) 22 mag loads and my Marlin, from a bench, will put five shots into a quarter sized hole at 100 yards. I have experimented with just about all the 22 mag ammo available, and the Winchester gives me the most accuracy.
    The Winchester silver box, 40 grain JHP was second, Remington V Max, third.

    I have to agree with CHRIS8161 also. I have the same results in both a CZ 452 American and a Taurus Tracker. If I am shooting past 50 yards I stay with the Winchester Supreme's. It does produce really consistent groups.

    Bottom line, you'll have to have fun finding what your firearm likes best!

    I have always thought that the shorter the barrel, the heavier the bullet should be. The reason being the heavy bullet will remain in the barrel longer, allowing more powder to burn, and achieving better efficiency. What would be the best round for a 2" barrel .22 mag?

    Winchester Supreme's all the way. Best bullet on he market for a 22 magnum.

    my marlin, arms corp and ruger single six shoot good with the CCI 40 grain fmj's and hollow points. the remington 40 grain's a close 2nd. Chris8161 has a good point of trying most all the different 22 mag ammo available to see what shoots best in your gun- a great way to spend a day at the range too.
