Mod. 12's and Simmons r ibs values?

In the late 60's I bought a 20ga., 12ga. 3" and a 410 (Mod, 42) and had Simmons install ribs. They did a "Delux" blueing whatever that meant and I'm wondering how these added ribs effect value? All were and still are in very good cond't.

    Welcome to the forum asop: That's a good question, after all Simmons has installed thousands of ribs on Winchesters, however once that was done, any collectibilty aspects went out the window. I know today it cost almost $400 for a standard Simmons rib installation, and that's with there oval post rib. They still put on the "Donut Post" rib and that's about $50. more.

    Back to your Winchesters, I know your "Duck" gun is a Full choke, if it's the common 30 in barrel, the value would be in the $400-$600 range, it really depends on the condition. If it has a 32 in barrel, it could bring another 10-20%.
    Your Md 12 20ga. could bring as little as $400 and as high as $750, especially if it's a 26 in barrel with an Imp/Cyl choke.
    your Md 42: Well one just sold here at GB last month for $950, it had a 28 in Full choke barrel, it was in about 98% condition.
    There are quite a few people who want a Md 12 or 42 for a shooter, and it's cheaper to find one with a Simmons rib already installed, as opposed to buying a gun and then sending it to Simmons. Several key factors when dealing with 12s and 42s, the shorter the barrel and more open the choke, means more money, with the exception of the Duck gun of course. Also what adjustment the barrel adjusting sleeve is on, I always check that, especially on Trap and Skeet guns, since they usually don't see the abuse of hunting. Either way, in the late 60's Simmons charged about $50 for a rib job, and Md 12s were still cheap and 42s were on the rise. So your investment has gone up.

    Appreciate your detailed info. I pd. $35, $42 and $50 for the 3 ribs all with irradesent front bead and a very sm. rear metal bead. 1/2" on 12 ga., 3/8" on 20 and 5/16" on .410. The 20 ga. has a 25" full, .410 has a 26" full. All space adj. are no more than 1/3 so all have a ways to go.

    ASOP In 1973 I bought a pre 64 model 12 28" mod brand new, in the box for $250 Being 22, and a fool, I sent it to Simmons and for $45 had a nice rib put on it. Later, I was sorry I did, but for the 5 years I shot it, I was happy. I eventuall y sold the gun for $350 and the box and papers for $100(I was smart enough to keep the box) I guess what I'm saying is that we both did what we thought was right at the time. 30 years hindsight is wonderful. At least we didn't do a poly choke or cutts compensator!! I still shoot a Model 12, this one being a 16 guage with 26" Imp Cyl. You can be sure it has a plain barrel.

    Yeah, I hear you. Probabbly shot over 1,000 ducks w/ the 12 and many pheasants w/ the 20. Both great shooters and alot of great times. Everything is relative. Stay safe.
