HI, I just bought a 1903 with a modern scope. When I try to load it with a 30 06 round I can only get one in the magazine, and its a pain to get it in. So, I bought the 30 06 stripper clips and took the scope off. The bullets fit the clip but the clip doesnt fit in the gun. Any ideas will be appreciated.

With a scope on it, you will have to load the magazine one at a time. It would probably be a good idea for you to join a gun club with a range where you could get a little instruction and practice.

I agree with Joel_Black. One feature of the 1903 is the three position safety. With the safety in the center (up) position you can open the bolt to remove a live round when unloading the rifle. Rather than working the cartridges through the chamber when unloading, you can remove the floorplate and let them drop out the bottom. To remove the floorplate, use a bullet point or similar object to press in the release in the back of the floorplate then push it to the rear. When replacing it, just insert in the rifle, and push it forward. It will snap into place.

    1. Do not load it. If it really is a 1903 and not a 1903A3 and the serial number is below 1,000,000 it may not be safe to fire. If you do not know the history of the gun, have it checked by a gunsmith. Have it headspaced and researched. (Post the serial number and arsenal name above it and I will see if it is a "brittle" receiver)

    2. If you have a scope, the three position military saftey has probably been replaced with a two position saftey which is normally up for safe and down to fire. In this case you can onl cycle the bolt in the fire position.

    3. Yes, go to a range and get some instruction. The 03 is a basic bolt action and your question made it seem that perhaps you do not have alot of experience with guns. THAT IS OK! We all start somewhere.

    4. After the proper saftey precautions enjoy it! I have 4 of them.
