mauser bolt takedown disc k98k
who or how do you place the bolt takedown disc in a k98k stock? bought new stock i need to have the takedown disc installed; help[?]

From what I understand,the take down was made in two pieces.Each piece has a cone shaped part that is inside the stock.When the smaller cone is placed into the larger cone and pressed into it there is a tight fit that occurs making them really hard to take apart.If you were to slide a punch of the proper size into the hole and it would contact the smaller of the cones, I THINK you could drive it from inside the larger one and remove the pair from one stock and install them into the new stock. I have yet to try it but in my minds eye I think it could be done.Good luck.Keep us informed as to the outcome.Thanks,modoc

Boy--!! This one really caught my eye. I've got a couple of K-98s, but they're all oiled up and put away, and I don't want to dig them out right now. But I've been working on Turkish Mausers for the last year, and their disc is installed with the two donuts as described by Modoc, but with a copper tube stuck through the middle and then peened over for a nice two-tone effect missing on the German guns. Kind of like an axle passing through two wheels, and being peened over to hold the wheels onto the axle. 0 -
