Yugo SKS function

I am having a function problem w/two yugo SKS rifles..

I have removed the fixed mags..

Using the same magazine, both rifles will load and fire properly; however, after firing the bolt will not return rearward!?

If manually returned, cartridge will be ejected, new round will load and fire, but bolt stays forward...

Seems to be a gas issue, but through visual inspection components seem OK???

Problem occurs when attempting to use other mags as well!

Any encouters with similar problems on SKS?

Perhaps I assembled incorectly?

Problem identical to both rifles!

Any Advice welcomed!

    It seems as though you have the gas valve shut off it should be 45 deg. in relation to the barrel in other words if you can lift up the grenade sight you have the valve off.

    Did you COMPLETELY disassemble & clean both rifles? The gas assemblies of Yugos are always filled with grease.

    That's correct and the SKS has two gas pistons, the long one under
    the handguard and the short one under the rear sight base that the
    long one operates. Go to www.simonov.net and find a manual or
    buy one from some surplus site. You'll soon be able to tear one
    down and put it back together in a minute or two. The Yugo is one
    of the most deadly assault rifles ever made, highly effective and
    reliable with a little instruction. Dangerous as hell with ignorance
    or carelessness. Good luck.
