Wife's CCW - Christmas Present - Suggested Gun?
My wife just qualified for her concealed carry for a 357 (Ruger gp100 mag), 38 (S&W Model 64, 4" barrel), and 9mm (Ruger P85 MKII). The gun most comfortable to her for shooting gun is the Ruger 9mm. However, it is also too heavy for her CCW. We agree that it would make a good home-protection weapon, but not something easy to carry. The gp100 is too heavy and the grip is small. The S&W is too long barrel-wise. Furthermore, if it is a semi-automatic, she wants a manual safety and de-cocker. Right now, she's leaning towards a Bersa Thunder 9mm as to the features and grip comfort. However, I want to make sure that there's not a better gun for the money. Obviously, if money were no object, I'd just have a custom gun made for her. Is there something more reasonable onthe market that should be considered? Suggestions/advise is welcomed.

S&W Ladysmith or one of their superlight revolvers with an aftermarket grip that she picks out in person. I recommend the hammerless or shrouded hammer model for purse or pocket. Don't forget a couple of speedloaders. The Ladysmith with appropriate sized grips works for us guys too. There aint nothing sissy about a .38 Special no matter what is stamped on the frame.

Anything with some power. I just got the crap scared outta me by watching court TV, they had one of those investigation shows where they re-enact crimes, show how evidence is gathered and talk about how people get convicted. Anyways, some psycho broke into this couple's house and raped this lady. Her husband bought her a .38 for protection, and afterwards she ran to her purse and shot the guy twice, but it was close range and he wrestled the gun from her and killed her with her own gun. Translation, I wouldn't go below a .40, and always hollow points. And make sure she knows where to hit them. 0 -

Get her a walther PP or PPK/S It is small, light, accurate and has a manual safety/decocker. A manurhin PP can be had for $250 or under and is a great gun.

A Glock with either a 3.5in or 4in barrel or the very slim Glock-36. The Springfield Armory XD with a 3.5in or 4in barrel. Any of these pistols chambered for 9mm, 40S&W, or 45ACP. Don't kid yourself 9mm packs a wallop.[|)] 0
