Question for reloaders

Looking to get into reloading and figure a kit is the easiest way to start. Found a Lee brand one on GB for $90.00. Is this a quality kit? Any other suggestions? Brands? Kits?

    Not the best loader, but for the money they are impossible to beat. Midwayusa.com has them for under $70. I used mine for many 1000's of rounds before I bought a RCBS rock chucker. I don't think the RCBS really gained me anything, other than it weighs 15 times more.

    There is nothing wrong with the Lee Kit. I bought an Anniversary Kit about eight years ago and have loaded thousands of rounds with it. Great outfit for the money.

    There is nothing wrong with a Lee brand of reloader. They are reliable and priced very competively.

    I own one Lee turret press, one Lee C-press, and a Dillon. I have used the Lee loaders for over twenty years and never a problem.

    As good as the Dillon is the Lee seems to do just as well loading thousands of rounds that are reliable and accurate.

    Various people tend to scoff at them because they are cheap, for all practical purposes do just a good a job as all the other presses.

    I started using Lee for reloading back when the closest thing they had to a reloading press was the little simple hand sets they sold in the late 50' to early 60's. My first one was in 30/06 and I still have the invoice for it(4.95 plus .35 shippping). It loaded some really accurate ammo for me. I gave it to a young man in the 1980's so that he too could get started in handloading. I only asked him to pass it on to someone else to help them get started also. I just recently found and bought one of the old sets in 8x57mm mauser. I plan to start one of my grandsons reloading with it soon. There are better tools available than Lee but none of them are really better value for the money spent. Like most things it will come down to how much you want to spend to do a job or how important name brand is to you.

    Lee only makes about two bad products, neither of which is a press. Just don't be like me and buy a hand set to save money (repriming 20 rounds took me an hour last night).

    The Lee is a fine starter reloader for a novice, but you'll be hard pressed (get it?) to find one at a benchrest shoot because it is a fine starter reloader for a novice.

    D@D (or anyone) - any idea why that set is so much cheaper than the others of the same model name? Cabelas is usually in the common price range, but thats like $25 bucks cheaper than anwhere else!

    I answered my own question - called Cabelas and this is a # 90174 - A Great Price!!

    It's called a loss leader, and they'll take a slight hit on the kit, but will more than make up for it on the "while I'm here, what else do I need" stuff (manuals, powder, primers, brass, bullets, ammo boxes, other accessories, etc), and other goodies (boots, clothes, etc) that's not on sale.
    Taking your wife and/or kids along for the ride? They will find all sorts of cloths and other neat stuff in the store to spend your money on.

    One thing, if you get the LEE kit, get a Nosler and/or a Sierra manual. IMHO (and 35 years of reloading experance) the Lee manual is not worth the paper it's written on.

    I have a Lee Progressive for my 40 Cal. s/w could not ask for anything better, for my rifles I use a Rock Chucker
