rifle silencer
hi, does anybody know how to make a good makeshift silencer for a rimfire rifle, that doesnt require drilling?

This may sound a bit naive, but a friend wants to know if it's possible to have a silencer put on his rifle so his gun doesn't scare off other game for the others in hunting party if he shoots his first. I told him it would look too much like a poacher gun to be legal, but anyone else have any advice for him as to whether it's physically possible or legal? 0 -
Hello unless you want to go to jail and never own a firearm when you get out I would rethink what you are thinking of doing. Yes you can own a silercer but they must be registered with the BATF and I think that cost $200.00 0 -

You can legally manufacture a silencer - Call he ATF and ask for a Form 1 and follow the process. Local Chief LEO signature, fingerprints, $200 for the tax stamp and wait.

Haven't built it myself, because it's very illegal, and won't tell you for the same reason.

whoa, chill out guys, its was plainly out of curiosity, i know of a couple ways, and its not like i was gonna build it anyways. i have a book on silencers that i read, and it semt like you could make them a lot easier then the ways they described, which included some permanant changes. dont worry, nobody is going to jail.

Making a silencer is pretty easy, as far as making one without drilling... not sure. Silencers work by maximizing the area for the gasses to escape whilst still inside a contained environment. Best way to do this is a cylendar with some drill holes. Theoretically speaking attapting a coffee can to the end of your barrel would atleast result in some dB reduction(minimal at best). You generally need a pretty thick hunk of metal and some drill holes for it to work effectively. http://www.full-auto.com/library_states.htm just make sure what you are doing is legal in your state.0 -

First, they are called "suppressors", not "silencers". That is because most of them reduce the sound, they don't silence it.
Second, all commercial suppressors have 1 thing in common: all were designed by engineers & made to precision standards. Yes, anyone with a Paladin Press book can build a suppressor, but who knows how safe & effective it will be? Commercial suppressors (which usually cost $400-600) will be safe, durable, & effective; if some baffles in your homemade suppressor come loose, you may eat your gun (literally).
