does anyone know of a link where i can go and find pointers for proper gun care and cleaning?

  I know that this is remedial, but what is the best way to get the grease off of a gun, and out of the barrel?[?] Should anything be done to the wood?

  I would lightly oil any barrel that I did not plan on shooting within a week.
  Keeping 22 barrel clean is much less of an issue in my opinion then shotgun. 22 bullets are lubricated so barrel doesn't have to be kept as clean unless you want benchrest accuracy.

  mikeh32, the short answer is yes. After cleaning a rifle--regardless of caliber-- or a shotgun, always run an oil patch down the bore. Why take the chance of a rusty bore when a patch with a few drops of oil on it costs so little and a new barrel cost so much.

  I agree, but before shooting again, dry patch the barrel to avoid the "dreaded first round flyer". (or "flier").
