CZ52- Any good?
My stepdad is thinking about adding a CZ52 to his collection. Does anybody have any pros or cons that I can relay to him? He's not worried about it as something to carry or anything, just to go to the range and shoot for fun.

Mine is pretty accurate. I've shot about 200 rounds through it with no problems so far. 0 -
Excellent design, shooting an effective cartridge. I own two of them, and keep telling myself to by another before the supply runs dry, or the lid clamps shut; but since mine are both in such great shape I just can't justify another purchase. Anyway....mine are extremely accurate, the gun is an all-steel qualtity design, and in my opinion the cartridge it shoots makes up for the fact that it is a single action semi-auto design. Get it while you can. Some all-walnut, checkered grips are available from Federal Arms Corp. (FAC) to replace those funky composition P-38 type grips; and believe me, it really makes a difference in the appearance.[:D] 0 -
Oh yeah!!! An afterthought---buy a couple of extra original mags, because they won't be available forever either![:)] 0 -

Excellent gun for the money ... or even 2X the money!
There is also a guy on AK-47.net that makes different color original style grips, I bought a set of the ivory ... he makes everything from OD to Russian Red and even some blended colors like red and gray ect ...
If you order a anything from FAC, be sure and get an additional firing pin as well as I hear the original is fragile, but personaly I've never had one break ... supposedly dry-firing will break them ... also one of these days I'm going to remember to order a slide release with the lever to replace original ....If you really want to do something, you'll find a way ...

I've heard the firing pins on these things break pretty easily, so avoid the dry-firing. 0 -
The CZ52 is one of the best surplus values to be had. These guns could not be manufactured today for 3 times their selling price.

I really do love this caliber
it is a hot load ----kinda close to the .357 mag......(least thats how it feels)
i was real suprised this caliber never did really become popular
it came on the import scene arolund the same time as the maakarov
cant find fault with the maakarov cartridge either
it is a little hotter than a .380
mine is the hungarian issed pa-63 and is a tack driver. i have never had a misfire or a jam yet
however i did recently purchase two boxes of some really nasty looking hollow points and noticed now my feeding ramp has a gouge in it
once i get that fixed i wont be using anymore of that ammo in my pa-63
i'd kinda like to try out the regular makarov
dont know if it's still the case but at one point police were using the makarov as a back-up weapon and i figure that might have has something to do with why the tokarev never became as popular as i suspected it would. they sure do shoot nice.

They are excellent weapons. The delayed blowback locking system is the same system to be found on the Heckler & Koch rifles. Just about fool proof.
7thSon. You might be interested to know that the cartridge is quite old. It is the 7.63 Mauser from 1896! The size is the same, but the 7.62 Tokarev loading is a little hotter.
Until the .357 came out in the middle 30's, the Mauser round was the high speed pistol bullet of the world. The round has the Neuhausen SMG chambered for it as well as the Russian PPsh SMG, and a few other pistols. Don't expect to see it die anytime soon.
