Savage Springfield 187H
Recently I bought a semi-auto 22 rimfire rifle that has no serial number but the barrel is marked Savage Springfield 187H. I can not find out anything about this rifle. I would appreciate any information. It has a tube magazine under the barrel.
Thanks

This rifle was made for a long time by Savage under their own brand name, and also under the names of Stevens and Springfield. There is an extensive list of model numbers and variations. I happen to have a 187 model in my shop right now for repair (broken firing pin), and many, but not all parts are still available from the Gun Parts Corp. They can be a bearcat to work on, because reliable operation depends largely on a balance of several springs, and when you have to replace one you often have to replace more. When the rifle works, it works well, but it seems like sooner or later they all need some fixing. Your rifle probably has no serial number because it was produced prior to 1968 when numbers became a requirement of law. 0 -
Thanks for the information Der Gebirgsjager. I bought this rifle at a gun show in November. The man I bought it from said that it would not cycle normal 22 rimfire ammunition but it did fine with the high velocity ammunition.
