leupold bore sighter
Hi, does anybody know how to use the leupold magnetic boresighter, i got it as a gift and i am not sure how to use it?

Just stick it to the muzzle and look through your scope. You should be able to see a grid with numbers. Adjust your scope crosshairs until it is close to the center of the grid. I have been using one for about a month, and I love it. I have found that if you put your crosshairs just to the left and below the center, it will be right on.

how do you know where to stick it on the barrel, if i stick it high then i will shoot high...?? 0 -
According to Leupold, it does not matter how high or low, just try to get it centered on the muzzle. It will get you on the paper at 100 yards, but its not as precise as the arbor bore sighters...but much handier to use out at the bench.

Martin, when I first got mine I thought the same thing about the height. But if you put it on the muzzle and look through your scope note where the crosshairs are, and then move the bore sighter up or down. The cross hairs will be in the same place. I don't know how it works, but it does.

yes, but i dont understand the principal. Do you need to shoot something first in order to sight it? can somebody explain in detail everything i am supposed to do. the idea that i am getting right now is, that you shoot at a target, and it doesnt hit the bullseye, so then you put on the leupold sighter, and put the bullet hole in the crosshairs and then ajust your recticle so that it hits the bullseye...???[?][?][?][?][^] 0 -
Nope - wrong idea!
Put the bore sighter on the rifle and adjust the scope first - then go to the range and shoot at a target.
Start out by placing a target about 25 feet in front of the rifle. If bolt action, remove the bolt and look through the bore to center the target in it. Now, without moving the rifle, look through the scope and see where it aligns. You want the center of the bore and the crosshairs to be at the same place on the target and will probably have to adjust the scope to make it so. It will help if you can sandbag or otherwise secure the rifle at the bench so as to make it as immovable as possible while doing all this.
Once the rifle/scope seem to share the same center, fire a 3 round group to see where it impacts on the target. Adjust the scope accordingly to move the group to the center of the target. Remember, all adjustments are times 4 what they are at 100 yds. If your scope has 1/4 increments, it moves the Point of Impact (POI) 1/4" for each click at 100 yds. You need 4 clicks to get the same movement at 25 yds. When you are centered at 25 yds, you can move on out to 100 yds and begin zeroing your POI to whatever height above center you want for longer distance zero. Most folks sight in for 2" or 3" above center at 100 yds.
After you get sighted in, place the Leupold bore sighter back on the muzzle and determine where your reticle appears on the grid. Make a note of this, so when you're out at camp and want to know if you're still zeroed you can slap the bore sighter back on and see if still in the same place on the grid.

I have a laser bore sighter, and I don't care for it. It works OK, it is just not as easy as the Leupold.
