RG23 questions
I have an old RG 23 .22 LR revolver. It's been in the family for years. I know it's not worth a lot of money. I've heard some bad thngs about these guns. It's in good shape, other than typical drag marks on the cylinder and dents in the cylinder face from dry-firing. It used to mis-fire due to a weak mainspring, but I fixed that. What I want to know is, is this thing safe to fire? I have fired it before, but someone said not to and just throw it in the river.

If you have fired it before then it is probably still ok to use. My guess is that it will have very bad accuracy.
The RG guns are one of the cheapest makes out there. They are considered junk by many firearms enthusiasts. It is probably usable, but I would not count on it for protection.
Since it has been in your family for a long time, I would put it away as a keepsake
