SAR1 Barrel Question
I want to add a muzzle brake, but do not want to extend the length of the barrel.
I found a site that clamps onto the front of the gas tube so that the front sight can be take off. http://www.aceltdusa.com/ak.htm
I thought that maybe I could buy a longer muzzle brake (say 3 1/2", then cut the barrel back that length. Add a thread adaptor (my sar has no threads) and put the muzzle brake on, making the legal 16".
I'm a little nervous, though.
Has anyone done anything like this before?
Are there any drawbacks to shortening the length of the barrel?
It is for close range anyway - within 100yds.
I know that obviously it has to be cut at a perfect angle.
Would an AMD 65 barrel fit into the SAR-1?
Then I could just screw on the muzzle brake?
Tips? Suggestions> Experience?
Thanks in advance.

I don't recommend cutting the barrel back without having a gunsmith re-crown the end of thr barrel. BTW you must have the muzzle brake permanently installed to be legal. Adapter will not cut it.

I saw a brake from Tapco that would've been long enough - but you're right ... we're getting complicated here.
I like the reliability of the rifle and 7.62 stopping power at close range, I just don't want to add so much weight to the front of the rifle.
Has anyone taken a front sight off an ak?
BTW - Thanks very much for the help - much appreciated.0 -
why not just buy a romanian military barrel assembly they have some here on gunbroker under fireamrs accesories for ak 47 already have threads , and trunion with barrel pressed , now whether you can change this out also is a big question
the thing that scares me is that we could be living in someone else's own reality0
