I believe the 14 C was the carbine version of the Remington model 14, which was later improved and renamed the Model 141. The .30 Remington Cartridge was the balistic equivalent of the .30-30 Winchester cartridge. The spiral magazine on the rifle is designed to prevent the bullet tip from one cartridge from pressing against the primer of the cartridge in front of it in the magazine. These were well made rifles but finding ammo would be a problem if you want to fire it. There might be some collector interest if the finish is original with a high percentage of it remaining. What you call a mealion is actually a cartridge case head to identify the caliber of the rifle. The UMC stands for Union Metalic Cartridge and there should also be a .30 Rem. stamped in the cartridge head. 0 -
