New SIG, and the will to do it beter.
I just bought the Sig 1911 GSR. It's sitting at my dealer waiting for my permit to come in, I hope with in the next 5 days. It's all I think about, I can't wait. Is this what it felt like being a kid? I'v forgotton. The past 5 years I had a S&W 4506-1 and a Glock 21 , All 45 cal, that's all I ever shot and all I ever do reloading for. Now with the Sig 1911 I want to reload more accurate and follow what more people use for ammo. I'm going to use the Alliant Powders but I'm not 100 % on bullet style and weight as of yet. I'v been useing a 230Gr FMJ type from The National Bullet Company. I was useing Bullseye Powder with 5.0 Gr loads.(now I'm reading use a powder that fills more of the shell) I go to the range and shoot at carboard targets, steel plates, tin cans and 35mm film cans filled with flour. I'v been able to get COL on reloads with my choice of powder and bullet weight but never FULL specs.I need "case trim length" along with COL and full specs for what ever I want to reload.(bullet style) I would like to hear from people with experience say to do with the 45ACP. I need full Specs on what would be best for my new Sig 1911.Is there a web site ware I can look up "Full Specs" on my options of reloads?? I just do not have enough of experience, I realize it, and would love some help. Can any one give me or point me to full data someware? Thanks guys.....

To Contacfront; Thanks for the reply Sir. I was begining to wonder why there were no posts to my questions. I understand this is a tricky subject and no one wants to risk giving info that may back fire on them. I fully understand and would never hold any one to blame for any info given to me that I may use impropperly and dammage my new gun!!! I have been to that web site and still do not find complete detail on the data I want. I am looking for: case trim size, bullet over all size, powder charge, and that info for different type and weight bullets with different powders. I know this is all tricky. I have a few different catalogs on the way from powder manufacturers, I hope they are some help. I'm still looking for info from experienced people here though. Thanks for the help. 0 -
Zac123, the information you desire can be found in a reloading guide. The best one I found is dedicated to the round you are reloading for. I found one for .41 mags at Cabelas. They have one for just about every round. Another possibility would be the local Library. They have reloading manuals every now and then.

It is not so much the liability issue that I gave you that web site instead of info on what I use for reloading 45ACP for my guns. I just do not load my 45 to the accuracy that you are seeking. I do know that a few of my buddies that do shoot 1911s in bulleye comp use Semi wad cutter lead bullets from Bear Creek. Also keep in mind that your Sig 1911 was designed as a fighting pistol and not a tack driver such as the Les Baer Custom 1911s. Next time I talk to the guys I will see what they use for their bulleye stuff and let you know.

Hello I have never shot a sig in 45acp but I have shot over 100,00 rounds of 45 in 1911 type guns and ( many rounds in Ransom Rest testing) Hotter is not better for group size If you reload lead bullets H&G type 68 BEVEL BASE 200 Gr. swc has a long nose and work great a fast powder like Clays , Bullseye or VV 310 works best try for about 800 fps. For one of the best but pricey bullets it is the nosler 185 GR. hp also about 800 fsp 230 Gr ball needs to be 830+ fps light ball loads go to SXXX You must test at 50 yards group sizes on 50 vs 25 yards on good ammo is 2&1/2-3 to one bad ammo is 6 to one. To get OAL of loaded round remove barrel and drop in a loaded round the case should be just flush with end of barrel.adjust your seating depth to get this fit. I chamber my barrels so 1.240 is my OAL. Use a taper crimp die and crimp .001 inside of flush Hope this helps Karl quote:"PRAISE THE HARDBALL GUN" 0 -
Thanks Again Guys, I'm printing out things now because I value the info you all are giving me. I'm going to keep the info you all give me in a folder so I can reference to it as I go along now with my new gun. I also just came from Cabelas web site ware I ordered a reloading manual. I looked over all of them and chose the one by Lee. I sure hope I made a good choice. I know my Sig 1911 GSR is not as fine as one from Les Baer but it had a good review in " On Target " September issue. It was said that during bench testing it pulled a 0.90 inch group at 25 yards with Black Hills 230 gr. FMJ. and 3 other ammunations with close to the same results. I know one must take info like this with a grain of salt. Also, sorry about my last post ware I said this is my dog. I could not figure out how to make the pic come up in my post. Also may want to look at the "One Book/One Caliber reloading manuals. I have a 2000 edition and it basically takes loading info from all the manuals and puts it into one with different bullet brands, weights, and powders. Tells you what is the maximum and also what was their most accurate load for that powder and bullet weight. You can get them for like 7 bucks.0 -
