Help on J Stevens

Hi everyone,,, bought a J Stevens 22-410 and was wondering on an apx production date. Barrel is marked "Stevens" Large letters... next to that J. Stevens Arms Company Chicopee Falls, Mass. USA. Model 22-410. 22 long rifle... proof tested 410 bore... 3 inch chamber. Gun has case colored receiver with patend pending on it. Serial number looks to be MA20 on receiver and barrel which dosent sound right from a company that made about a billion guns..... Thanks

    Stevens Model 22-410 Introduced 1938 and discontinued in 1950, Still in production by savage Arms as Model 24. Hope this helps. I got the Info out of my modern gun values gun digest. not sure about teh MA20

    yatchetman, there was an article in December 3 issue of the GunList on this gun. Yours sounds like an early one. If the rifle barrel and shotgun barrel are soldered together, it's pre-WW2. If not, it's post-WW2. Does it have plastic or wood stock and forend? I don't remember all of the details in the article, but if it has pending patents inscriptions, that would indicate an early gun also. This is the gun which became the current Savage M24 as time wore on.

    Notice that the article was in the GunList instead of the Rifleman. Sorry for the incorrect info.

    The barrels may have been soldered together after WW2 also,for a few years.
    It became the Model 24 in 1950.
    The plastic stock, according to the article, was used in the war years.

    the stock and foreend are wood. Im thinking it has to be pre wwI vintage. but not 100% sure
