Sighted in my new rem 700 cdl in 270 win need help

Took out my new rem 700 cdl in 270 for the first session. Decided not to break in my barrel and have fun. Anyway i used rem exp corlokt and got good groups...here is my question. I took a 3 shot group and 2 shots were almost touching and then one was like 3-4 inches off! Me and my buddy think it does that becuase its brand new and the barrel needs to "break in".Or the cartirdge could of been a flyer. I will also try some more expensive ammo, maybe winchester silver ballistic tipps. Any suggestions would be great! Gave it a good cleaning when i got home so the groups might improve next time! I have debating my next box of ammo to try. PLEASE GIVE ME SOME RECOMONDATIONS ON SOME GOOD AMMO. Like i said i am thinking win silver ballistic tipps or rem core lokt ultra?

    I would recommend giving your rifle a break in period, If you are not sure of how to do this, I can give you one of the more simple techniques used.(to save money use standard FMJ ammo)
    #1 Fire 5 shots let it cool completely then swab.(repeat 4 times)
    #2 Same as above with 10 shots. (repeated 3 times)

    After this your barrel should be well broke-in, be careful not to get too carried away with your bore brush or you might lose accuracy. I will explain. durring your fouling shots you are actually filling in minor flaws in the steel of the barrel. If you scrub too much you will remove this (patching) as I call it, and will just have to refill it. 4-5 strokes should do the job.

    Now for your third shot being 3-4 inches off, it sounds like you just had a flyer. It's no big deal, it may have just been a slight weight change in bullet or casing or you may have just pulled it. No offense, it happens.[:D]

    As far as ammo goes Rem core-lokt is very good.I have also had great luck with winchester power-points in my 700 consistent 3/4" groups @100m and it's only about $14.00 for a 20rnd box. However if you are looking for superior accuracy without hand loading you might want to try Federal gold medal match-kings. GOOD LUCK [:)]

    My experience has taught me the barrel warms after every shot and the point impact can change.

    If the third shot is the flier I would suggest a longer period of time to allow the barrel to cool. It is not the ammo unless Uncle Rube gave you some reloads.

    you pulled the shot - your failure to clean the barrel (break in) will show up later but it is not to late - great article in a few months back with pics of inside the barrel of the damage caused by not breaking in a new rifle (American rifleman mag)

    break-in DOES NOT INCREASE ACCURACY,..it increases accuracy LIFE (the interval between cleanings when accuracy degrades). I shot a pencil barreled rem700 classic 6.5x55 today that came in a hogue overmolded stock with bedding block. IT WAS ERATIC even with my loads. So,..I took a pack of cigaretts off the ground,..folded a peice of the pack,..put in under the front of the barrel for a contact point,..and the groups were cut into 1/3's to 1/4. Try lifting up on the barrel and sliding a folded business card under the front so that it is fairly tight. Then shoot again. if it consistently happens, pulling the shot is not cause. One time every few groups and your are pulling the shot,..but when it happens regularly,..it is most likely in need of a foreward contact point, or it has a contact point that needs to be removed somewhere. MHO

    why chase the game when the bullet can get em from here?....

    My Remington 700 BDL shoots 1 inch groups with factory Winchester 130 gr. power points.

    I'm with JustC, I have a few Remington Rifles and I allways free float the barrel first and it never works, allways have to go in and put some barrel presure about an inch and a half In. seem's to do the trick, all my Remingtons want barrel presure.
