RED DOT HELP .......

Need advice on a good red dot scope for a Ruger .44mag revolver. ALso would you mount one on an AR-15 and if so which one ?

    AIMPOINT OR Trijicon Reflex or ACOG, depending on what you want to spend.

    I have trained with all three sights and they are outstanding dot sights. Pros and Cons to all three of course but over all I would take the Reflex unless you plan to do a lot of low light shooting or low light CQB.

    Aimpoint is great except that the dot is not clearly defined as the Reflex or ACOG and takes batteries. But if you have the need to use night vision with you dot sight, this would be the one to get.

    ACOG is a sweet piece of glass, great for longer ranges due to its 3X or 4X magnifications, VERY clear. The deadly donut reticle is my favorite and it is very clear and defined. No batteries and the dot is BRIGHT. Price can hurt you at around 700 to 900 depending on model and mount. I don't like for up close stuff or run and gun type of shooting. 4X makes everything bounce around a lot.

    My personal favorite is the Reflex II with a 4MOA dot, I use this on my AR and its great for all around shooting, engaging man size targets out to 300 meters is no problem. No batteries, can adjust the brightness of the dot with a sunshade add on. Dot is defined so you can use the top edge for more precision shooting.

    Comes down to what you want to spend and what will the sight be used for. Hope this helps.

    most reddots are some kind of tube like a scope body that you look thru , so in low light conditions many times you can't see your target, you will get a red haze that you can't see pass so that why

    IF you're going to be using your Ruger for hunting them go with a Bushnell Holosight, no tube to look thru so no shadows to deal with , in low light conditions if you can see your target with just your naked eye ,all you have to is put that red dot on it and it yours, this is because you are not looking thru a tube but just a raised lenses with the dot projected on it

    Please take a look at the EoTech. They make a fine site. Have one on an AR-15 and love it. Also have an ATN site on a S&W S-22 that is a fun set up, but the site is NOT quality and I wouldn't trust it to hunt with.
