Since I recieved such great info. from all of you recently I thought I would run this by you as well. I am also getting alot of inquiries about Hi-Point firearms. They look to be cheaply made but I have been told that these are pretty rugged pistols. The low price makes them attractive and the warranty even more so. I have never fired one of these and would like to know a little more about them. If anyone has any experience with these I sure would appreciate your thoughts.(yes,I know they are not much to look at)

The handguns are junk.
The carbines are ok, but not much to write home about in the end, mostly a "fun gun"

Carbines beat Ruger PC9 in a recent Gun Tests Magazine comparison. Handguns are cheap and look like tire irons.

When I think of a fun gun I think in terms of quality and accuracy. Both of which HiPoint is lacking. If a Pistol is not accurate I get bored with it real quick, but everyone derives fun in different ways. If you just want something to go BANG then its cheaper to buy firecrackers. What everyone else said and you will never be able to sell it for even close to what you got it for.
Yes they are cheap money wise but the are also cheap quality wise. If $100 to $200 is your price range check out some of the handguns for sale at:
http://www.aimsurplus.com
You can find better quality used firearms for the same range that those hi-points go for.

Ditto, what HenryOReilly said. I was all gung-ho to get one, then went to the past discussions. Good grief, I'm glad I never bought one! Remember, the toys a man has reflects that man's character. If your toys are cheap and crappy, so are you.

There's nothing wrong with the model 995 Carbines; they're fun to shoot (but only 10 rds), darn accurate for a firearm in their price range, and easy to clean. One look at the massive extractor should give you an idea of how robust they are.
Yeah they're ugly.
Yeah they're inexpensive.
Yeah I'd rather have one than a slingshot.
The pistols are heavy, have horrible triggers, feed and extract anything I feed them (9mm/40s&w) including bent, dented reloads that my expensive guns refused to swallow.
You'll never win a medal with one (unless you get one for shooting a rabid tin can), but they are an OK choice for carrying around in your car (because you'd need a belt AND suspenders to tote one on you!).

I have a Hipoint .45, I paid $140,my friend bought a 9mm.for $100. They are cheap,ugly and all that crap,however, I have never had mine fail no matter what I put in it. I like to take it to the range and bug all my pals with it![;)].If your looking at a hipoint then it is obvious that you're on a budget and I say no better place to start finding out what you like than with one of these inexpensive guns. you'll get your money out of it if you want to sell it, you're only gonna' spend under $200. I say forget those guys at the gun store and give one a try!

Yes, as MFI said, the carbines were rated above the Ruger in G.T.
Frankly after looking at the carbine I couldn't bring it home. It is uglier than my ... well I better not finish this!

There is a guy at my range that has a .45 ,he swears it has had to malfunctions ,and I can attest to the accuracy I have seen him shoot with it
I was at a shop a few weeks ago ,a guy comes in and asks how much he can get on one for a trade in ,the owners response was blunt ,but accurate in my opinion
