British s/s with no maker stamp
What shotgun do I have?
When stationed in Japan, a Japanese gun dealer (yes there are a few) sold me a very interesting 20 ga. side by side that has no manufacure stamp or name. It's a beautiful work of craftsman ship. It has very fine engraving all over the receiver (I'd call it case hardened color like old west guns) and it has what appears to be British proof markings inside the receiver. A crown with "V" under it and a crown with "C over P" under it.
The receiver and the barrels have matching serial numbers.
Accross from the crown with "V" is a diamond shape with "SSS" inside and the number "20" after that. Across from the crown with the "C over P" is a serial number of 2247. Above this number is another number 44109410143.
The gun looks to be old but not used much. The stock has a "cast off" and there is no butt plate. The butt end wood is slightly inlet with 5 sets of 9 groves made horizontally and evenly.
It has a single trigger with selector switch and an up/down safety behind ghe receiver release. Normal 2 3/4" 20 ga shells fit into the breech but the action will not close...I think it might take 2 9/16" or something of that sort. The steel barrels are not Damascus (spelling?); I've seen Damascus before.
I've taken it to a couple of local dealers but their more interested in buying it than telling me about it. It's probably hard to research.
any ideas on what I have?
