SPRINGFIELD ARMORY MODEL 1911 .......
I just bought a Springfield Armory Model 1911 A-1 "G.I. Model" .45 yesterday at the Raleigh N.C. Gun & Knife Show.
I`ve wanted a Model 1911 for years, but could never see paying the steep price for a Colt 1911.
Does anyone have any opinions or experience with the Springfield Armory 1911 A-1 ? Of course, I`ve already bought....but I would still welcome opinions,good or bad.

SA in my opinion makes a fine 1911 . Dad owns a SA 1911 and loves it never had a problem after countless rounds.

Well, I think so....I got it for $405. (tax included) since the seller gave me $75. in trade for a WW2-period Samurai Sword.

I can only hope you did your homework on the sword. The right ones can be worth in the hundreds of thousands of dolars.
Watch "the antiques road show" and hope you don't see it there!! Just kidding ya!! (but samari swords can be worth lots of money).

The price on pistol was not bad but the price of trade in was way too low should have been worth more than the pistol 0 -
I own 2 Springfield Armory, (Geneseo, IL) l911 GI .45 Autos and I
like them. They operate reliably on Winchester and Remington ammo,
both FMJ and JHP that you can buy reasonably at Walmart in 100 round
boxes.
Two things I would recommend:
1. Get a hands on demonstration by someone really familiar with the
piece to do the break-down (field strip) for cleaning. Most persons
unfamiliar with this process scratch their slide unecessarily with
the slide stop.
2. Load the chamber round using the slide only. Don't load one by
hand. Fill the mag, insert the mag into the pistol, then, with a
strong sure stroke, pull the slide back all the way back and release
slamming the round home. Then, after thumbing up the safety, eject
the mag and replace the round. Now you are cocked and locked with a
full mag+1. Do not lower the hammer and carry with a round in. If
you wish to lower the hammer for carry, make sure the chamber is empty.
A new gun may hang a time or two when new, but after a little breaking in Springfield's 1911s are tough, reliable and consistant.

ive shot the living crap out of one of these, and its still shooting great. if i had to replace one thing, it would be the sights, as this gun will shoot much better than you can aim it with the speed bumps they stuck on top of it. [:D] 0 -
I too wanted a finer '1911 45 ACP' for a while.
I bought a SA 1911A1, and just maybe the factory/distributor messed up.
Overall it is the finest 45 I have ever had, but here's the rest of the story. The rangemaster that handled the FFL for me ordered 2, so he could put one in the sales case (I gave him $450).
The pistol arrives, he calls me, I go to range, he says nothing and just hands me the pistol. I started looking it over, then looked at him, and he gave a dry smile and said "the other one is mine now".
It came with a lowered ejection port, slick-sharp trigger, a 'custom fit/hand fit' bbl & bushing, and a few other details that were pointed out to me as 'non-standard'. I may be wrong, but the FFL involved is a gray haired ex-recon, who admits he was wrong once, long long ago.
Anyway, All attributes of the gun were worth the buy, mistake or no. That is why I wanted the gun anyway...certainly a lifetime piece.
Shoots everything I have fed it, and I am the weakest link in the groupings.0 -
It sounds like you got the "Loaded" Mil-Spec model at the GI price. How come everybody else gets lucky? 0 -
paid $450.00 for mine (stainless).....great shooter...would also make excellent platform for custom piece...leaving mine exactly the way it came ......goes with my WWII GI rig....officer's holster, belt and mag pouch...I added WWII K-bar knife with sheath (US on sheath)to top it off...too much Band of Brothers I guess.... 0
