9mm vs .380

I'm new to this and confused. What is the difference between 9mm and .380? I have a gun that has both sizes listed on it. I also have a 9mm. Can I shoot .380 from the 9mm gun?

    What kind of gun is it that shows this?I'm no expert so just curious.As far as I know the two are not interchangable in the same barrel,but I've been wrong before.[:I]

    The .380 is basically a 9mm short. The 9mm luger round is slightly longer in case length than the .380.

    Hello in Europe the 380 is sometimes called the 9MM kurtz Kurtz is german for short. some times called 9MM browning short.

    Both are .355 inches in diameter. The .380 is also known as the 9mm kurtz. The true 9mm and the .380 are not inter changeable. There are more types of 9mm besides these two. [8D]

    Also known as 9mmCorto, 9mm Kurz, etc.; the 380 ACP is a smaller (powerwise) round than the 9mmParabellum.
    I also wouldn't shoot any ammo not specifically indicated on the barrel.

    380 is 9X17 while 9mm Luger/Parabellum is 9X19

    I think I understand. My PPK/S is saying I'm made for 9mm but you can shoot the weak .380 stuff if you want. If I follow that logic I should be able to shoot .380 from the P226.

    DO NOT shoot 9mm in your PPK. It is chamberd for 380 only.

    No - shoot .380 in only the .380 .

    Shoot only 9mm in the 226.

    You will not be happy with the result if you do anything otherwise.

    Your PPK/S is probably marked "9mmK." (9mm Kurz, translated, 9mm short) That is NOT 9mm Parabellum. It is a .380 ACP.

    Thank you all for your input. I'll shoot my 380 ammo in the ppk/s and I'll use the 9mm ammo in the p226.
    Am I likely to find 9mm kurz ammo for sale?

    Yes, in Germany, because that is simply the German designation for .380 ACP.

    .380 ACP, 9mm Kurz, 9mm Corto, 9mmK, 9mmC, 9mm Browning (in the Czech Republic) 9mmX17, all are just different names for the same cartridge.
