gas tube on AR15 *more questions*

one of my ARs has been jamming a lot. It's new, clean as a whistle, is a colt reciever and bushmaster barrel. I have swapped different parts into my other guns' uppers and everything still works fine, and I was talking around and most people come the concensus that its my gas tube.
Apparently it's like losing compression in the cylanders in your car, just makes everything run crappy. So I was wondering how to tune it, and make it function and cycle the rounds properly like my other AR's.

    since you have parts take a gas tube from a working gun and put it in your non working gun (i'm assuming you haven't done this already)I have found that even being a little out of shape can cause problems they don't even have to be obviouly bent.

    sounds like you may have a short recoil problem. Take a look at your gas rings to see if maybe the gaps are lined up instead of staggered the way they should be. If they are ok, take a look at both ends of the gas tube for carbon build up. If you have it on one or both ends then you have a gas tube leakage problem. I have also seen them come from the factory with the gas tube installed upside down so NO gas gets through. This will also cause that problem.

    If you could be more specific about the jamming. I could be more specific with the answer.

    Is it ejecting the spent round at all? Or feeding two rounds from the mag at the same time?

    I have two AR-15 courses from AGI (American Gunsmithing Institute) and I've watched a guy take ARs completely down, and then put them back together and then talk about trouble shooting on one. I haven't had the same problem as you and I haven't done this but you may have to go to the source, under you sight post where the tube meets the barrel. He said sometimes the tube doesn't align perfectly and you will lose gases causing problems. Maybe the Colt receiver and Bushmaster barrel are slightly different causeing that hole to be out of place slightly or maybe somethings slightly smaller?? He said sometimes you need to grind that opening a little (very little) bigger to allow enough gases to go through. I'd maybe check that out if you haven't already.

    I know its not the gas rings because I've put the bolt carrier in question in my other AR's and it functions properly. About re-aligning the gas tube, or enlarging the hole, is there a web site that will walk me through it? I built my AR's with pre-completed uppers, so I don't have an instruction manual or anything.

    I don't know of a website off hand but with all it sounds like you work with ( multiple ARs), I'd recomend getting 2 of these AGI videos. They weren't that expensive and give you everything you need to know about your ARs. The first one is course # 103 " AR-15 Armorer's course", 2 hours and the other is course # 323 "Build the AR-15", 2 hours and 4 min. He goes slow, complete take down, re-build and troubleshooting, and many great close up shots of small parts. It would show you how to get in there and check to see if that's the problem.

    take it to www.ar15.com I'd guess you need to enlarge your gas port or your gas tube is not installed properly. Anyhow, those guys over there are nuts about AR's and have done about everything you can think of to an AR.
