Regular slugs through fully rifled shotgun barrel
I know you need a fully rifled barrel to shoot sabots accurately.
What about shooting regular a slug through the fully rifled
barrel? What would that do to accuracy?
Thanks

I don't think rifled slugs perform well in a fully rifled barrel. I don't remember the details, but I think that's the case.

What eastwood said and I remember a post earlier, it's a bear to clean the barrel. 0 -
Here's what i can remember from asking the same question before I bought a rifled barrel - Its perfectly fine to shoot them, but you may have excess lead buildup. If my memory doesnt fail me - the riflings on the rifled slug are designed to contract to accomodate for the different choke types in a smooth bore, and actually dont provide any spin on the slug. Ive fired both from mine and havent really noticed any difference in the accuracy of sabots and rifled at 100 yds with the rifled barrel. Nor was there any more mess with the rifled... Hope this helps if I am correct.... 0 -
they don't work that well my friend went through 10 box's of foster type slugs and was all over the target. He though the sights were bad so he took it back to the gun shop . they told him to shoot sabots. It shoots fine now 0 -
Hello "cgs500"[:)]
When you manage to "lead" the bejeezers out of your "rifled" barrel using "Foster" slugs, let me know. I will tell you how to get the lead out of the barrel and it isn't going to be easy.
Rifled barrels were designed to use saboted slugs or now there is a very special slug on the market that will turn your rifled barreled shotgun into an African "Paradox" gun. They are available from www.dixieslugs.com, however they are relative expensive and are designed for heavy, "DANGEROUS" game such as bear and hogs.
Best Regards[:)]

I just came in from sighting in the shotgun. I ended up going with the Federal Vital Shok in 3 inch Mag. From 100 yds using an improvised rest (four wheeler handlebars), I easily kept a 4 inch group. Foster slugs never worked that well for me. Thanks for the help, I didn't think I could get away use the cheap stuff,...it figures. 0
