Ruger Red Label Advice Needed!
I will be purchasing a Ruger Red Label Engraved (New In Box) from my neighbor. It is a 12 ga. 30" barrel with 5 chokes. Is it worth the $1250 he is wanting? I hear conflicting stories on here about prices for these guns. Any insight? Thanks

Michael, Welcome to the forum.
The non-engraved Red Labels go for around $1,000 to $1,100. A NIB "engraved" Red Label is worth the $1250 he is asking in my opinion.

You might see a better price at some point, but that's not a bad one. I've seen sellers ask several hundred more than that. It all comes down to how much you really want it.

I don't happen to prefer the 12 ga. but you'll find the Red Label to be one of the best purchases you ever made. I suppose you might do slightly better if you had the inclination, but the guns are retailing for considerably more in most areas.
Buy the gun if it fits. Then try to wipe the grin off your face because others have spent many times more on other brands and your Red Label is every bit the gun theirs is.

I bought my 20ga Red Label for $700 Canadian from a fella who won it at a wildlife dinner. He took it out and shot it once, decided he didn't want it, then put it back in the original box. I know I got one heck of a deal on it, but I have had no regrets in buying the Red Label. There was a Winchester 101 I was dealing on at the same time for the same price, but I went with the Red Label instead.

Just one more observation before I take my leave...
Price is fair no matter whether engraved or not. True, it won't shoot any better, but that's not really the point.
The point is that you'll have this gun for the rest of your life, then your son and your grandson. If the gun makes you smile just by looking at it, then what little you've paid for the engraving is the deal of the century.
If the gun is only to shoot, then buy a Turkish or Russian cheapo. Throw it away in a few years and then buy a fine shotgun because you'll have learned that what I've shared is true.
