colt 1911 45 acp

I have a colt 1911 45 that was handed down from a family member that served in ww2 in the pacific theater.
It does not have the original grips but has the lanyard ring and stamped on its side says us gov property
What is this worth and can you identify it by serial number?

I have been offered $1200.00 for it.

    Hello there are many prices of a colt 45 If we have the serial we can give you the date it was made . Colt ,Springfield, US S&S REM RAND, Ithaca, Singer made 1911's . many 45's were sold by the D.C.M but if you served in WW II .Uncle Sam did not give you a pistol out of the goodness of his heart. In other words it was stolen. If it shoots it is worth $400.00 and if it is like new in the box made by SINGER it is worth $10,000.00 "GOOD" pictures are a must. quote:"PRAISE THE HARDBALL GUN"

    I agree with perry shooter.

    The serial #, and the inspectors mark on the left side of the frame, will tell us who made the frame. The slide may say "Colt", but that only tells us that Colt made the slide. And, we need to see every little marking on the barrel (after it has been removed from the gun.) The finish, shape, & markings on every little part are needed in order for us to figure out what it is, & what it's worth. Only your detailed photos will enable us to tell if it is all original, or a Mixed Parts Mongrel.

    I will take all the "like new in the box" Singers I can get for $10,000. Such a Singer, if one exists, would be almost priceless. A very good Singer is worth $25,000 or more.
