Don't get a pistol.
That is the general consensus when it comes to side arms for dangerous game.

Beretta Cougar 45 would be my first choice, excellent pistol, accurate, nice grip angle and still made in Italy.

Check out the EAA Witness pistol in any of the calibers they have...especially the 10mm; what a round!!! The Cougar is nice, but a bit expensive, the Sig is better but proportionately MORE expensive, and the Ruger semi-auto's, I personally just don't like. Rugers SA's are great (ask any Cowboy Action fan)but I have NEVER enjoyed ANY of their semiauto's and feel that I likely won't ever like them. At least you can't argue the competitively priced factor!
The Witness is made by Tanfoglio brothers in Italy, so if you like the idea of an Italian made gun, theirs are about as good as they get and the price is almost unbelievable! This series of guns are an update/modernization of the venerable Czech CZ75 military weapon, itself, a legend. The brothers Tanfoglio have made enough design changes over the years that their pistols are now considered an independent design. Do yourself a favor...at least check out EAA's website and see what you think! Have fun!

Thank I'll check out the witness. Might I add I own a Beretta M9 and am a member of a ducati bike group so I have a lean toward italian design. But, I'm fair enuf. What shoots good is good 4 me. I just need something a tad bit smaller/powerful than my M9. Thanks for the input. Keep it coming!

I have a Cougar in 40sw and it's a good gun. -- Haven't shot one in 45 though. It fits my hand and points very well. I shot it side by side with a Beretta 96 with the the same 40sw ammo and it had noticeably less felt recoil than the 96 due to the different action ( the barrel rotates during recoil to help dampen it ). -- Be forewarned that there are not other barrels readily available like for the 92's and 96's. -- I personally like the SIG's and have some of them, but I think the Cougar is just as good a gun.-- Just my .02 -- Good Luck............[8D] 0 -
For some reason I think I'll be owning both a Sig and a Cougar.
