Thunder Five

I own a Thunder Five Revolver serial number 2801. I have seen Thunder Five revolvers with fluted cylinders. Mine was mfged in Piney Flats, TN with a fully-circular none-fluted cylinder and the fluted ones say they are too. Was there a change or option available when ordered new? Or are the fluted Thunder Fives altered with Ruger Judge cylinders?

I have one. I bought it because I got a good deal on it at a pawn shop. It is a real attention getter whenever I take it out. At close range (10-20 feet) it is a lot of fun to shoot with .410 shotshells. I tried .45 Colt ammo but every round tumbled at the seven yard target. The surprise was shooting .410 ga. 1/5 oz. slugs. Really good accuracy and light recoil. Honestly, this pistol is so heavy there is little recoil with any loads. I can't recommend it for any useful purpose. There are much better choices for any possible handgun use. The only thing is, it's fun to own, to show, and to shoot, and there is no denying the intimidation factor. The cylinder reminds me of a soup can it's so large, and the holster has loops for 6 shotshells. As far as the intimidation factor, even Dirty Harry would notice this pistol.

Have you looked at the BFR? 45-70 is even MORE fun than .410!

I am not an expert, but I have shot a Thunder five. It was fun to play with (when's the last time you shot skeet with a pistol? [:)]), but its the only revolver I've ever shot that jams. [:(!]
I cannot recommend it for self-defense b/c its unreliable. However, when it doesn't jam, it is fun to play with.

never even heard of this beast

i do reload and have dies for 45-70 and even 45-90 LOL

i want to see what this particular firearm looks like for sure

thats just not my forte

i'm real shocked to hear they jam

were you using that solid metal casing ammo when it jammed?-or perhaps some old antique paper rounds or something like that or were you using the good ammo?-i read there is problems with that russian made metal casing ammo.---also

i'm wondering

was there an earlier version that perhaps had some kinks that have been ironed out?

theres just something about this gun that really attracts me

only thing i'd change (i'm no expert)

but what if it had a 3" barrel instead of the snub-nose?????

ONIONS are toxic to your dog!
Onions are toxic to dogs. The toxicity is dose dependent, so the bigger the animal, the more onion need be consumed to cause a toxicity. Onion toxicity causes a Heinz body anemia. Heinz bodies are small bubble-like projections which protrude from a red blood cell and can be seen when the cells are stained. This "bubble" is a weak spot in the red blood cell and, therefore, the cell has a decreased life-span and ruptures prematurely.
If numerous red cells are affected and rupture, anemia can result. It is a form of hemolytic anemia. Onions are only one of the substances which can cause Heinz body anemia. Other substances such as Acetominophen (Tylenol) and benzocaine-containing topical preparations can also cause Heinz body anemia in the dog.

The toxic effect of the onions are the same whether the product is raw, cooked or dehydrated. The hemolytic episode usually occurs several days after onion ingestion (lowest hematocrit around day 5 post ingestion). Daily feeding of onions could have a cumulative effect due to ongoing formation of Heinz bodies versus a single exposure with a wide gap until the next exposure, allowing the bone marrow time to regenerate the prematurely destroyed red cells.

The cat is even more susceptible. Recently, Gerber began to add onion powder to all its meat baby foods. They are labeled as "better tasting". Since baby food is often used in sick cats that are not eating (to stimulate their appetites), there was concern that the onion powder would cause a Heinz body anemia in these cats. Within a week or two of the change, there were numerous reports of Heinz body anemia in cats receiving Gerber baby food in their diets.

I strongly recommend NO ONIONS for dogs. There is no benefit and certainly the potential to cause harm.
