some kind of 7mm

hello, one of my old freinds used to have some weird type of a 7mm rifle. I lost contact with him but i am curious about the round again and i forget what it is called. He had it in a Sako rifle, and i dont think it was standard factory ammo, because i donthink anybody made it.. i may be wrong, but it was pretty uncommon. does anybody have any ideas what this round could be?

    There are a bunch of factory 7mm rounds, it's quite a popular caliber (bore diameter) in europe.
    And if it was a wildcat cartridge than the possibilities are almost endless.

    Some guys like a mag full of lead, I still prefer one round to the head.

    The 7mm STW was THE 7mm offering until the advent of the 7mm ultra-mag came along a few years ago. The 7mm RUM as it's called surpasses the STW in ALL aspects. Better than 3,400 fps at the muzzle with a 140gr bullet, etc, etc I could go on and on about how wonderful the RUM is however..........
    The STW is a pretty respetable offering, still popular with those who own them, prety impressive all around chambering, capable of taking ALMOST anything on the continent. Yada-Yada

    I am Not an expert on the 7mm-STW (Shooting Time Westerner) But what I do know is it is just a little faster than the 7mm Rem and 7mm Weatherby Mag.

    It can be a barrel burner, but the plus side for hunting its a true one shot 400+ yard round for deer.

    Reloder 22 works well with 140gr JSP's at about 3300 fps.

    Since this cartridge was for a Sako rifle, it could be a European Sako rather then one made for the American market. In that case , I would suspect something like the 7X64mm Brenneke which was designed about 1917 or the 7X66mm Vom Hofe. Both of these cartridges and the rifles were imported by Stoeger in the early '60's. Both cartridges are about equal to the 7mm Remington Magnum and are beltless.
