One More Browning A5 Date Question

Just when I think I've got a handle on it, I see that I don't. We recently acquired a Belgian Mag 20 s/n 7X7570, VR, Flat Grip, gold trigger, modified**choke. Is this a 1967 or 1957 gun? Thanks in advance. Jim

    The "X" Code (for 20 ga Mag) started in 1967.
    In fact there wasn't such a thing as a 20 ga Magnum until 1967.
    The 20 Gauge Magnum was introduced in 1967 with serial number 7X-001
    and was shipped March 15, 1967

    Glad it helped.
    IF you EVER come across a 20 ga. magnum A-5 with round knob,
    in nice condition; I would sure be interested.
    I've owned a couple of them (both serial #'s below 7X100)
    and "foolishly" got rid of them thinking I could find
    one in "perfect" condition.

    SpringCreek - Will do. So they made both style stocks for that gun for a short time? How about for the Light 20? Anyway I'll sure keep that/you in mind.

    Any of the "Light" 20's prior to 1967 were round knob.
    The "Rule of Thumb" is that in 1967.........that they
    both went to "Flat Knobs".
    But this is not "Entirely True"!
    Because on the particular day in 1967, they were not
    magically "Out of" Round Knob stocks, so both the
    Light and Mag 20's (Early serial # 1967) had a chance
    to have a Round Knob stock installed, until inventory
    was depleted.
    The forearms were a different story, as they were
    not interchangeable (Length).
    This is not to say that a person might find a later Mag 20 of
    any vintage to have a round knob on it.
    If a stock was broken, it could have been replaced with a round
    knob stock. Not "correct" to original gun!
