Browning A-5 Values

I am looking at a couple of different A-5 Brownings. One is a 1931 Sweet 16 that has been refinished, decent job on the refinishing gun looks good a very slight bit of the detail of the engraving has been lost in the refininsh. They are asking $750. The other gun is a 1968 A-5 20Ga, again refinished but in better condition than the 16. This gun has blonde wood, asking $725.

My other Shotguns are all 20Ga and I have always liked the browning auto. I would shoot this gun occationally and also have a collector interest. I am not set on one guage or the other, but would buy the gun that has the most collector interest and future value.

    BEING REFINISHED DROPS THEM DOWN TO "SHOOTER" GRADE, I'D SAY $400 TOPS FOR EITHER (WELL' MAY BE A LITTLE MORE FOR THE 16)

    Don't be mislead, a 1931 16 ga would not be a "Sweet 16".
    The first "Sweet 16 was shipped from Belgium on 11/19/53 and
    was serial number S-01.
    "Sweet 16" will be found on the left side of the receiver of
    such shotgun.
    What you're looking at is a "Standard" 16 ga.
    Nice shooter maybe, but not a collector piece and overpriced.

    After doing more research I was thinking they were over priced, and after more careful inspection, the refinishing wasn't well done. The 16Ga does have "sweet Sixteen" on it, it was tagged with a hand-written 1931 on it, I haven't looked at the Serial number. This collection consists of about eight A-5s and a new Remington 1100 LT-20 and a new Remington .22 auto, the new guns are very reasonably priced, I might pick up the 1100.

    Interesting J3Cub - Keep in mind that it can never hurt to make an offer - house, car, dog, gun. That is if you are truly interested in an item. Just my thoughts.
