270/7mm

Has anyone out there heard of a 270/7mm. I purchased a RPM Merrill with a barrel for this caliber and the dies but I don't know the parent case to use. Any ideas would be helpful. I think it is very similar to the 6mm PC.

    This sounds to me like the old wildcat 7mm-06. Since the parent cartridge is the .270 Winchester, I would think that you would neck up the .270 and fire form it in the .270-7mm chamber.

    Could be any number of wildcats such as : 7mm Mauser to 270; 7mm08 to 270; 7mm Magnum to 270; etc, etc.. - Best bet is to have a chamber cast made to check the dimensions unless there is more info on the dies or gun................Good Luck........[8D]

    This is the small version:

    "Another interesting wildcat is the much more recent .270 REN. Charles Rensing and Jim Rock designed this little cartridge specifically for NRA Hunter Pistol Silhouette competition. It is based on the .22 Hornet case necked-up to a straight wall configuration. It is reloaded with 90-110 grain bullets with velocities in the 1600-1875 fps vicinity. Recoil is very low, and Merrill and Thompson/Center have offered guns in .270 REN. A T/C Contender Carbine or Encore single shot rifle in .270 REN would make an interesting and unusual alternative to a .25-20, .30 Carbine, or .32-20 rifle."

    Jim Rock made a round like that called the 7mm Rocket and dies are available from him. E.A. Brown has also based on the 225 Win. This is a rare round only really chambered in TC Contenders. It is very accurate and a solid round but very rare. It also can go by the name of 7mm Merrill, I am not sure if these are all identical in shoulder angle and case capacity, but know they are all based on the 225 Win case.


    There is also the 7mm IHMSA International and the 7mm International Rimmed. Without doing a lot of looking it's possible that there is a version of the 7mm Remington BR necked down to .270 but that would take some searching. Mike Rock chambered a lot of different wildcats for his pistols. A good search engine might help but it might take some juggling of terms to get the right cartridge. A chanber cast is the right solution.
