SA Trophy Match Guide Rod
I was wondering if there are any benefits to having a full length guide rod vs. the end cap and spring found on the majority of the 1911 brand guns.
My Trophy Match came with the full length guide rod and in all honesty, I don't know what the advantage is.
My father's .45 doesnt' have one (Series 70 Gold Cup), and it shoots just as good as mine.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Jimmy

The only real advantage that I have ever found is the ability to remove the slide assembly as one unit. I swap top ends on some of my frames and this helps. With heavy springs, it does help to keep the coils straight so they don't drag on the frame. 0 -
The primary benefit of full-length guide rods is to the bank accounts of full-length guide rod sales persons. 0
