Adjusting trigger stop

I have an adjustable trigger stop on my SA Trophy Match but have never bothered fiddling with it.

What exactly is the purpose of a trigger stop and how is it adjusted?

    Hello JIMMYZ. Everyone had different likes and dislikes when it comes to a trigger. The trigger stop is there to reduce the amount of "OVERTRAVEL" To shoot N.R.A. matches the trigger pull must be 3&1/2 pounds for CMP HARDBALL matches it must be 4 pounds. Overtravel is the movement of the trigger toward the rear AFTER the sear has cleared the hammer "HOOKS" .If you can picture the trigger being pressed and just as the sear clears the hammer the hammer starts to fall the trigger pull is now much lighter and it jumps back until something stops it when this is a long jump it can disturb the sights and thus spoil the shot.To adjust the trigger stop unload the pistol turn the trigger stop screw in 2 or three turns cock the hammer and pull the trigger the hammer should not fall now recock the hammer to reseat the sear and slowly turn trigger screw out 1/4 turn at a time until the hammer falls. reset the hammer each time you try to pull the trigger. Now that you have almost all the overtravel removed you need to do one more thing cock the hammer and with your non shooting hand hold back on the hammer and pull and hold the trigger with your shooting hand easethe hammer down and check for any drag as it goes by the safety notch if there is drag you will have to turn screw out untill no drag. If you have drag it will ruin the trigger pull.
