How do you remove a recoil pad?

I have an old savage gun with a recoil pad added on to the stock years ago. It is too long for me and if I take it off adn put a plastic butplate on it, it owuld work great. How do you take those things off a shotgun.

    The should be 2 holes in the pad the same place the orig screws go.
    The screw heads are inbedded down in the rubber all the way to the plastic plate next to the butt.

    You will have to force a screw driver in these holes down to the screw heads. They may be slot or phillips If it's old I would bet slotted

    The holes may be hard to see because the rubber pretty much closes up over the hole. Push a medium Phillips into the hole and try it. Oil the screwdriver shank so it doesn't bind in the rubber.
    If you have problems cut the rubber mostly off and take out the screws.

    some pads are glued on and shaped to match the stock. If you can't find any holes,..that may be why.

    why chase the game when the bullet can get em from here?....

    So I just have to cut it off if it is glued then I imagine?

    yep! But cut the recoil pad short and then grind the remainder so as to not intrude on the stock material.

    I'd be amazed if your 620 had a glued on recoil pad tho, I think that process was reserved for more high dollar trap stuff, etc. If you grab that pab with both thumbs on the 'butt' part of it (the part that rest on your shoulder when shooting) and spread it apart hard, I'm sure you'll find a small slit (this almost sounding a bit pornographic, and for that I apologize!) where the screw holes have 'grwon' shut over years of use.
