What is an Essex .45 Auto?
One of my younger brothers bought a 1911 style .45 auto for around $200 bucks. I have never heard of it before. He says the name on the side is Essex and it was made in, I believe, Connecticut. Anyone ever heard of these or have any idea whether or not, for the price, they are junk or okay?

okay...
in most cases "ESSEX" made the slide and the frame, and someone else gathered together the other componants needed and assembled a working gun.
the slides and frames from ESSEX are high quality, well made pieces.
as to wether the gun is good, or well made, that largely depends on who assembled and finished it, what skill level they had, and the quality, fit, and finish of the other componants they installed.
my dad owns a comped out tackdriver ESSEX with a match BBL, VIDEKI match trigger, TITANIUM POWER EXTRACTOR, MTW TARGET SIGHTS, etc...
i have seen other so called ESSEX guns that were total garbage...

Mike, that was actually a huge help and I appreciate it. I am going to suggest that he take it to a quality gunsmith and have it gone over for an assessment. He bought it for the price and because he wanted a .45. Like me, he can't afford some of the more expensive well known name brands out there right now so he,like me, is tempted by cheap stuff. 0
