New Winchester 70 .25wssm will not eject cartridge

I just purchased a new Winchester 70 .25 wssm Ultimate Shadow. I took it out to break in last night and it will not eject spent cartridges, it just drops them in the magazine. New cartriges eject just fine. If I push down on the bolt as I pull it back it will eject most of the time. Is there any easy way to fix this? Deer season starts in 2 weeks, so I don't have a lot of time to get it fixed.

    This isn't much of answer, but a friend of mine had the same problem with his Rem 870. After he shot a shell, the darned thing wouldn't eject. Eventually he had to take it to a Gunsmith to have the chamber bored out. He was glad it was still under warranty, but it appeared like they just didn't bore out the chamber enough.

    This may sound stupid, but are you pulling the bolt back all the way. I just tried that with mine (.270WSM) and the only way I could get it to do that was to come back real slow or not quite far enough.

    It doesn't seem to matter how fast I pull it back. I thought of that myself so I tested it quite a bit. As soon as it pulls the spent cartidge out of the chamber it drops it. It always pulls the cartride out of the chamber, so I don't think it's a problem with the chamber. If I have a new one in it I can pull it back as slow as I want and it never releases it until I hit the ejector.

    Take it back to the dealer you bought it from. Maybe they will swap you or at the minimum let you swap bolts, try it to see if the problem is fixed, and if it is, let you keep the bolt.

    However, if the dealer won't work with you ... send it back to the factory, even if it means missing this season with it. You spent a fair amount of money and there is no reason to void out your warranty trying to get it fixed elsewhere.

    This you don't even want to do because of possible headspace problems with a different bolt. Bolts are just not throw away items in which you can just replace with another bolt.

    Thanks for the info guys. I couldn't swap the bolts anyways, they don't keep the wssm's in stock. I was curious if they could just send out a new bolt, but I thought headspace might be an issue. If I can't get it fixed by deer season, she'll just have to use it as a single shot.

    Sounds to me like its coming dislodged(?) from the extractor on the way out somehow. The extractor SHOULD hold it until it hits the ejector bar. Since it's new, taking it back is the best option.
