whats the differance between17HMR and 17Mach2,are they interchangable,do I need two differant guns,I was going to buy a Remington 504 in 17hmr,can it shoot the mach 2 ammo

    There are 3 different 17 CAL. rimfire non interchangeable.1 based on 22mag shell and 2 on the 22long rifle case.

    This topic has been addressed previously. With the introduction of the new .17 Mach II seems many people are confused about shooting this cartridge in the HMR barrel. Please be advised they are not interchangeable. Although the Mach II will chamber in the HMR barrel it's shoulder will not reach the taper of the chamber. I personally think they should have been made like the .22mag & .22lr which will on chamber in their respective cylinders. There is also a 3rd member to the .17 rim fire group. This is the .17HS. This round can be safely fired in a barrel chambered for the .17 Mach II. Its case is approximately 1/16" shorter than the Mach II. The only current manufacturer that I am aware of for these shells is Aquila. All of the above information is from my own experience as I currently own rifles chambered for all three of the above mentioned cartridges.
