Airline approved pistol case question?

I'm looking for a good pistol case that's airline approved. I've found 2 on the GB auction site. Which one do you think would be the best?

To me, the second one looks less like a pistol case than the first one, but I'm a bit worried how the soft sides will hold up being thrown around by airline personel.

Any other suggestions are more than welcome also.

  I just flew with a pistol for the first time (two weeks ago). The only questions the agent at Check In asked were:
  1. Was the case hard sided and locked? (yes)
  2. Was it unloaded? (yes)
  3. Did I have any ammo. (no)
  To my knowledge, no one loked at it.

  I fly with firearms frequently so I've had the opportunity to see what happens to all forms of baggage including guncases. There are a couple that stand out although I certainly won't condemn any.

  I would look into the soft case that you show above and make absolutely sure that they meet or exceed the current airline specifications for that case. Don't take the seller's word for it but get it in writing just to protect yourself and your firearms.
  
  My cases may not be pretty after 10's of thousands of air and truck miles but they still work and they are secure, dust proof and waterproof. They have outlasted the gorilla baggage people...so far!
  
  Be absolutely sure to get online with your your airline long before your trip to print out a set of their rules and regulations. If you have questions, call them and get the information stated clearly and then get the person's name and location. Always be polite but if a counter person gets overzealous, simply ask for the supervisor and get out your printed set of rules. I have only had one incident in many years of travel and that was right after 9/11, with an extremely undertrained counter person. Her supervisor got it straightened out in nothing flat. No reflection on her, she just hadn't been trained enough.
