NO. The cases are two different lengths. The Mach II will not sholder in the chamber of the HMR. 0 -
Nope! The Mach 2 is a 17 caliber placed into a 22LR case. The 17HMR is much longer and as a result shoots 200-300 FPS faster.

17M2 is to 17HMR as 22lr is to 22mag which are the parent cases for these new rounds. And just like the parent cartridges you can interchange them.

Ditto. All the above information is correct.
There is also a difference in the mass of the bolts and recievers for some of these rifles, i.e., the Ruger 10/22 Magnum or should we say the 9/17 Magnum, being a case in point. The point being that even if you were able to fire the Mach2 in the Ruger HMR, the rifle may not function properly because the bolt timing would be incorrect.
In fact, it was a surprise (I believe) to many of the aftermarket parts manufacturers to find out that the Ruger 10/22 would not be converted safely or function safely without a replacement bolt of increased mass to control the cycling. Of course this would not a concern for a bolt action rifle but the extra headspace could be a problem.
Don't try it.
