Pitting?

Is there anything you can do to get rid of pitting once it starts to occur on your gun like sanding and refinishing or polishing it off?Or are you screwed once it starts to pit?Or maybe somewhere you can send it that can take care of the problem?Thank You.

    I know pitting is a bad thing, and I think I know it when I see it, but what exactly is pitting? Is it some form of rust? What are the warning signs of pitting, and what can be done to stop it after it starts? How exactly do you prevent it besides just cleaning and lube? Thanks in advance for replies.[:)]
