external hammer shotguns
was the Winchester 1897 the only 12 gauge made with an external trigger (in recent times)? Im sure there were many made back before the civil war, but have any been made in large-scale production in the last 100 years?

I have a sxs 20 made by Rossi a long time ago. It is the style of gun my wife is most comfortable with for home. It patterns well, has a beautiful deep blue finish, furniture is good, but it is artfully engraved with my wifes initials (I gave it to her a long time ago). I did not want this gun in the closet corner or her 'hides' anymore, so I convinced her to try another external hammer gun. Hers is a longer 'hunting barrel', and I convinced her that a short bbl would be better for close quarters.
I did a search at the HOME of this sight for 'coach guns' and got a lot of hits. Apparently Rossi arms are still around, but the finish did not look deep beautiful from photo's...it was acceptable though. Got a few hits for Norinco (clones of something), and a few that were collector pieces, not what I wanted. I also went to 12 gage and a short bbl. Most were in the 200 - 300 range. Before I ended the 'foreplay' (gun shopping) I found a nice piece on a local buy at $ 260 (after $40 of ingraving).
