remington rolling block 50-70
hi, can i rechamber this barrel to 50-110, it appears to be 1/2 inch longer, thanks, bryan.this is a no 1 action,ps also missing extractor.

I would think twice about this as the base of the .50-70 is larger in diametre then is the .50-110, .565 versus .551, also the .50-70 has a larger rim then the .50-110, .660 versus .607.
I would ask myself why I would want to do this conversion? Unless you plan to use black powder only, you will not see any increase with the longer case. This is because with smokeless powder the 1-3/4 inch case can be loaded to equal anything that the longer case can do.
Another thing to consider is that you are talking about a Remington rifle in caliber .50-70 Gov. That means the 1870 Navy, the 1871 Army, the New York State or (God forbid) the sporting rifle. All of these rifles are worth a good bit of money, especially the sporting rifle. If you go buggering up one of these rifles you will have lost any value that it has now.

If you just have to do something like this, look for a Remington #1 action. They come up for sale quite a bit. Here is an auction for a replica action. http://gunbroker.com/auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=25626490 Then have a barrel and stock made for it. There are also some calibers that have very little value that are built on this action. 0
