Savage-Springfield-Stevens question?

I have a single shot 30-30 that I shot once about 30 years ago. I was cleaning it today and noticed the left side of the reciever says "Springfield manufactured by J. Stevens Arms Company" and right side says "94B". The barrel says "Savage Model 219". Just curious, as I never noticed this before. Thanks for any info anyone can provide.

    The Sprinfield/Stevens 94 was a single barrel shotgun in 12,16,20,28, and .410. The Savage 219 was single barrel rifle chambered for several calibers. The Savage 220 was also a single barrel shotgun. The receivers of all 3 models are essentially the same and, if fitted PROPERLY, the barrels are interchangeable. Due to the headspacing requirements, you should not switch barrels yourself for safety reasons. The fitting can be done by a competent gunsmith. Your receiver most likely started life as a shotgun and somewhere along the line the original barrel was swapped out for the 30-30 barrel from a Savage 219. My Dad still owns a Savage 219 that was given to him when the new Canadian gun laws came into effect. His has 3 barrels: a 12ga, a 30-30 with open sights, and a 22Hornet barrel with a scope. As we could not tell if they came as an original fitted set, we had them checked by a gunsmith and only a minor fitting issue was dealt with on the Hornet barrel. It is a fine shooting, lightweight rifle that will eventually find it's way to one of my sons once they begin deer hunting. What better to learn with? Single shot, break-barrel 30-30....perfect! If it checks out OK, shoot it and enjoy it. No harm there because with the mix-and-match setup you have there is very little value to it; But still a fine deer rifle. Good luck and have fun.

    Thanks for the info Duse. My buddies boys are approaching deer hunting age, and as you, I thought it would be a great gun for them to start with. I'll get it checked by a proffessional first. Thanks again - UPBert
