Problem adjusting my new red dot scope

Well, I finally decided to get one of them there fancy red dot scopes I've been seeing for years. So I surfed on over to Sportsmans Guide and got one of those inexpensive (cheap?) 50mm Baraka red dot scopes for $30.00. It looks and mounts great on my Marlin camp 9mm semiauto carbine. With no ajustment it shot about 2-3 inches left of and level with the bulleyes at about 75 ft. It was a cold day here in KC, so I didn't try any adjustments at the range. Brought the target home and taped it to the back of a chair and "bench rested" my carbine on the bed about 25 ft. away. My plan was to bench rest sight the red dot at the bullet holes that had been fired at the range and then use the adjustments to move the red dot over to the bulleyes. But I screwed the heck out of the adjustments and that red dot didn't seem to move at all.

Is it just me or is it a cheap scope and won't adjust or what? I had the same problem with a revovler handgrip mounted Crismon Trace red laser in that even though I screw the two adjustments I never saw much change.

Any comments or advice on this? Am I just buying cheap stuff that doesn't work or am I not adjusting it correctly or what?

    I found that the adjustment on a cheap red dot to be backwards. If you want it to go up, adjust it down. Left means turn it right. Remember that at a close distance it takes a lot of adjustment to move it a little. If it adjusts 1/4 inch per click at a hundred yards then it takes 4 clicks to move 1/4 inch at 25 yards. At 5 yards(like in the house) it takes 20 clicks to move 1/4 inch. There are limits to how much they adjust.

    Hello There are 2 problems in what you are trying to do. The first is the distance between target you shot and now trying to zero on are not the same. If your shots were off 3 inches at 75 feet they would only be off ABOUT 1 inch at 25 feet. Second the line of sight is a straight line but the bullets path is an arc It starts out well below the line of sight crosses the line of sight goes and goes above line of sight it then arcs to cross the line of sight the second time . If you tried to zero your rifle say at 5 feet it would proablely be off by yards at 50 feet. The third thing yes I know I said 2 "I lied" is unless you have the rifle in a vise or can move the adjustments on the scope with out touching /moving the rifle you have no Idea which way you are moveing them . The best way to get "CLOSE" is with a bore sighter. Sorry. Karl

    I never got to eye them correctly. If my face wasn't at the same spot everytime it's like me shooting drunk on a boat in rough waters. Lots of noise from me and the gun but lousy on paper or stuffed animals.
