Remington 742 6mm

I bought a Remington model 742 6mm today and am unfamiliar with this caliber. Could someone tell me if this is a good deer rifle?

  Any situation where the 243 Win would be appropriate, the 6mm (244) Rem would fit, and have just a touch extra.
