Good pistol for the money
Hello,I am looking to buy a ''bargain pistol'' I am thinking of a cz 52 or a high point 45acp.I really dont care about the caliber of the pistol but I would like to hear some sugestoins of used military pistols or decent cheap pistols,thanks in advance for any input.

Don't know about the Hi-Point.I do have a Hi-Point carbine(9mm)and am happy with it for a cheap truck gun.I think between the two,I'd go with the CZ52.I'm pickin' one up in the next week or so.

The CZ-52 is a lot of pistol for the money. It's a great buy right now. My recommendation other than the CZ is a Makarov. The Bulgarian ones can be bought for about $150 at gun shows,even less when buying wholesale from Aim and other suppliers. In 9x18 Makarov caliber, these are as close to being 100% reliable as you can get and they will hold up well, accuracy is good, and ammo is cheap. The Russian and East German ones cost more because they are "collector" guns; the Bulgarian ones are almost as good for about half the cost.Check out pawn shops too. I got my East German MAK for $125. The bargains are around, thay just take some legwork. I love my CZ-52 as well. You won't be sorry if you buy one of those, just don't dry fire it, the firing pins are brittle and WILL break after just a few (maybe one) dryfire. 0 -
Not even a contest between the 2...get the CZ52. It will handle the most potent ammo available as the original Chech manufacture was loaded 25% hotter than normal and almost all current manufacture id loaded much lower. Very reliable and strong.

My cz-52 is in 7.62x25mm caliber. It came completely coated in cosmoline, and took hours to clean and lube. I bought it for a cheap "glove box" gun. I thought I was buying second rate, but it has never ftf or fte. I have learned a great respect for the weapon and the caliber. Again, I am glad to be proven wrong. 0 -
I always recommend the Ruger P-90 (.45ACP) to folks looking for a budget/decent pistol for home defense/plinking.

EAA Witness in 45acp or 10mm. The Wonder Finish and full size 10mm or the Poly in 45acp. My 2 cents [8D]

Some other good choices might be a Star B or Star BM.
Expect to pay about $400.00 but you can get a Colt Systema licensed by Colt if you can find one.
Another choice would be Ballester Molina. A clone but reliable copy of the 1911. These were going for about $200.00.

Check out the Bersa Thunder 45..small on price, but good on shooting. If you want something just a tad bit smaller, Bersa in 380 goes for around $200 NIB. These are inexpensive pistols, not cheap pistols.

Don't know how much you're looking to spend but you can pick up a new XD-40 for $400, maybe a little less. It's rock solid and very accurate. I've put all ammo form the cheapest Wolf to Hydrashoks through it and it's flawless. You might have some trouble with a few hollowpoints but Hydrashoks and Golden Sabers are fine. You can strip it down and put it back together in about 10 seconds. 0 -

Star Firestar is a good one as well. Reliable for many years...don't know why I gave it away.

Replies are on a good track, everybody had their pet 'best gun', 'first gun', etc. ... and some are getting out of the $ 200
The 'Tokarev' gun is not my first, favorite, or other. But I have a Polish tt33, $200, 3 bbls came with it for shooting 9mm, 38 super, and 7.62x25. I was impressed with the 7.62x25 round. The Norinco clone my oldest boy has eats 9mm and 7.62x25 all day, but action is not quite as smooth. Shot a CZ my podnuh has in 7.62, he had 500 rounds with no problems so far. All were in the 200 buck range.
Had a Firestorm that got really loose after about 500 rounds.
All are references to centerfires. If you don't care about caliber, will a 22 do it? You may pick up a Ruger 22 auto or revolver for that $ from a local sale. You can shoot the 22 for a long time on loose change, and shoot some 'low noise' rounds in the revolver.0
